Selling Your Craft
aka So You Want to be an Independent Designer

Being someone who makes a living selling DiY clothing, I get a ton of emails asking somewhat personal questions about how much money I make, how I do it, etc, etc. And I know that a lot of other people doing the same thing get asked this stuff, too. I'm not a business major and I have absolutely no formal training in anything relating to marketing or even fashion design, so all of this is stuff I've picked up or figured out all by myself over the years. I'm not saying this is a foolproof guide to selling, but it's worked for me.
So here are my tips and guidelines for selling your craft. A lot of the examples will lean towards sewing and handmade clothing, but the general advice and information can apply to selling any kind of handmade item, and some of it could apply to any kind of small business venture.
